Torn or elongated earlobes are a common aesthetic concern often caused by heavy earrings or accidental trauma. At Freyea, ear lobe repair is approached with microsurgical precision. The goal is not just to close the gap, but to reconstruct the earlobe's natural, rounded contour seamlessly.

What Ear Lobe Repair Addresses

Fully split or torn earlobes

Elongated or stretched piercing holes

Damage from tribal piercings (gauges)

Loss of volume or deflation due to aging

Asymmetrical earlobes

Previous localized trauma or scarring

Beyond Simple Closure

Simply stitching a torn lobe together often results in a notched or pointed appearance. Our philosophy emphasizes true structural repair using specialized tissue rearrangement techniques (like Z-plasty or L-plasty) to ensure the healed lobe is strong and maintains a natural curve at the bottom.

Is Ear Lobe Repair Right for You?

Ear lobe repair is a straightforward solution for almost anyone experiencing aesthetic or functional issues with their earlobes.

  • Your earlobe is partially or completely torn
  • Your piercing holes have stretched making earrings hang unevenly
  • You want to close intentionally stretched lobes (from gauges)
  • You want plump, youthful-looking earlobes (often treated with filler)
  • You wish to wear earrings again without them falling through
The Freyea Signature
Microsurgical Suturing.

The Freyea Signature

We employ extremely fine sutures, typically used in facial plastics, to minimize scarring. Our repair technique reconstructs the lobe in layers to provide internal strength, allowing you the option to safely re-pierce your ears after the healing process is complete.

The Treatment Experience

The procedure is quick, highly effective, and performed comfortably under local anaesthesia in our clinic.

01

Evaluation

Assessing the extent of the damage to determine the most effective surgical technique.

02

Local Anaesthesia

The earlobe is gently numbed to ensure absolutely no pain during the procedure.

03

Tissue Preparation

The healed edges of the tear are carefully 'freshened' to create raw surfaces that can bond together.

04

Layered Closure

The tissue is meticulously reconstructed using fine sutures for a smooth, scar-resistant finish.

The Z-Plasty Technique

To prevent natural scar contracture from creating a 'notch' at the bottom contour of the earlobe, we frequently utilize a Z-plasty or interlocking tissue flap. This distributes the tension and ensures a beautifully rounded lobe edge.

Re-Piercing the Lobe

You can re-pierce your ear, but it should be done after full healing (about 6-8 weeks). The new piercing should be placed slightly off the scar line to ensure structural integrity and prevent a recurrent tear.

Treatment Details

Ear lobe repair is a minor outpatient procedure with immediate recovery.

Anaesthesia

Local Anaesthesia

Duration

20 to 30 Minutes per ear

Recovery

Immediate return to daily activities; mild tenderness for a few days.

Permanent structural repair; sutures are removed after 7 to 10 days.

What to Expect

Immediate

A small dressing or tape is applied over the sutures. There is minimal discomfort once the numbing wears off.

You must keep the area clean and apply prescribed ointment. Avoid sleeping directly on the ear.

Days 7 to 10

Return to the clinic for a quick, painless removal of the fine external sutures.

2 Months

The lobe is fully healed, and you may safely have the ear re-pierced if desired.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does ear lobe repair hurt?
No. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. You will feel a tiny pinch during numbing, and then nothing during the repair. Mild soreness afterward is easily managed with oral painkillers.
Can I drive myself home?
Yes, because only local anaesthesia is used, you can safely drive yourself to and from the clinic.
How soon can I exercise?
You can resume light exercise immediately, but we recommend avoiding strenuous activities or swimming for about a week to keep the wound clean and undisturbed.
Can stretched 'gauge' earlobes be repaired?
Yes. Repairing stretched lobes is more complex because it involves removing excess skin and rebuilding the shape, but we perform this frequently with excellent results.
Will the scar be visible?
Scars from this procedure usually fade remarkably well and become nearly imperceptible over time, especially due to our meticulous microsurgical suturing technique.
