Beyond Refreshment. Structural Integrity.

Blepharoplasty at Freyea is more than removing excess skin. It is a structural assessment of the eyelid muscles, fat distribution, and skin quality. Whether focusing on the upper lids to clear the field of vision or the lower lids to address persistent puffiness, the goal is a look that feels refreshed, not 'surgerized'.

What Blepharoplasty Can Address

Loose or sagging skin that creates folds in the upper eyelid

Fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the eyelids

Bags under the eyes (lower eyelid concerns)

Drooping lower eyelids that reveal white below the iris

Excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid

Functional vision obstruction caused by heavy upper lids

What Blepharoplasty Should Not Do

Eyelid surgery should not change the fundamental shape of your eyes or create a 'startled' or hollowed-out appearance. At Freyea, we prioritize conservative tissue management to ensure you still look like yourself, only more rested.

Is Blepharoplasty Right for You?

Many patients consider eyelid surgery when they feel they look constantly tired despite being well-rested. Suitability is determined by skin quality, muscular support, and individual dry-eye history.

  • You have heavy, drooping upper eyelids that may interfere with vision
  • You notice persistent puffiness or bags under the eyes
  • You have excess skin on the lower lids that creates a 'crepe-like' texture
  • You have realistic expectations and good overall ocular health
  • Systemic conditions like thyroid issues are well-managed
The Freyea Signature
An Invisible Approach to Rejuvenation.

The Freyea Signature

We focus on 'scarless' techniques where possible, such as the transconjunctival approach for lower eyelids, and meticulous incision placement in natural creases for the upper eyelids. Our aim is to restore the youthful contours of the eye area without leaving obvious surgical markers.

The Freyea Approach to Eyelid Surgery

The eyes are the most expressive part of the face. Our approach is highly individualised, often combining skin excision with fat repositioning rather than simple removal to prevent a hollowed look.

01

Periorbital Assessment

Evaluating brow position, lid laxity, skin quality, and underlying fat pads in relation to the midface.

02

Surgical Design

Marking incisions within natural folds or inside the eyelid to ensure the most discreet results possible.

03

Tissue Refinement

Precise removal or repositioning of fat, muscle tightening, and skin excision performed with micro-surgical care.

04

Post-Operative Care

Comprehensive guidance on cooling, eye drops, and activity to minimize swelling and support the delicate healing process.

Upper vs. Lower Blepharoplasty

Upper blepharoplasty primarily addresses sagging skin and occasional fat prominence. Lower blepharoplasty focuses on 'bags' and smooth transitions to the cheek. They can be performed together or separately depending on your goals.

Fat Repositioning

Modern eyelid surgery often involves moving fat from areas of excess (bags) to areas of hollowing (the tear trough) rather than just removing it. This maintains the youthful fullness of the face and prevents a skeletonized appearance.

Procedure Details

Timelines vary by anatomy, surgical plan, and individual healing. Your expected recovery will be discussed during consultation.

Anaesthesia

Local with Sedation or General Anaesthesia

Duration

1 to 2.5 Hours

Recovery

Return to social activities in 7–10 days

Results

Durable rejuvenation; effects typically last 7–10 years or more

Recovery Timeline

First 48 Hours

Intensive use of cold compresses to manage swelling. Some 'tightness' around the eyes is normal.

Day 5-7

Sutures are typically removed. Most bruising begins to fade visibly, and makeup can often be applied shortly after.

Week 2

Most patients return to work and light exercise. Residual swelling is usually minimal and easily concealed.

3 to 6 Months

Final contours settle and incision lines continue to mature and fade into natural creases.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I have visible scars?
Upper eyelid scars are hidden in the natural crease. Lower eyelid scars are either inside the lid (transconjunctival) or right under the lashes, becoming nearly invisible over time.
Will blepharoplasty fix my dark circles?
It can improve dark circles caused by shadow (from bags), but it does not change skin pigmentation or circles caused by very thin skin showing underlying vessels.
Can it be combined with a brow lift?
Often, what looks like excess eyelid skin is actually a drooping brow. In these cases, combining blepharoplasty with a brow lift provides the most natural and effective result.
How long does the result last?
Upper eyelid surgery results typically last 7–10 years, while lower eyelid surgery is often a once-in-a-lifetime procedure as fat bags rarely return.
When can I wear contact lenses again?
Usually about two weeks after surgery, once the eyelid tissues have settled enough to avoid irritation when placing or removing lenses.
Will I have difficulty closing my eyes?
A common concern, but properly performed blepharoplasty is conservative. We ensure enough skin remains for full eyelid closure and protection of the ocular surface.
Does the surgery fix crow's feet?
Blepharoplasty primarily addresses sagging skin and fat bags. Crow's feet are often better addressed through anti-wrinkle injections or skin resurfacing.
Is eyelid surgery painful?
Most patients describe the sensation as a mild tightness or soreness rather than sharp pain. Discomfort is easily managed with oral medication.
Can eyelid surgery improve my vision?
Yes, if significantly sagging upper eyelid skin is overhanging your eyelashes and blocking part of your field of vision, the surgery can provide functional improvement.
